The Fantastic News! & A 7 Month Old Boy!

Yesterday was a pretty awesome day.

Emma had an appointment with her rheumatologist in Oakland. After her initial refusal to stand on the scale, and my resort to bribery, everything went smoothly. So smoothly, in fact, that Emma left the office with four Disney princess stickers plastered on her shirt.

But that's not the best part.

We get to start weaning her off of medication.

Wait, let me restate that: WE GET TO START WEANING HER OFF OF MEDICATION!!!!!

In case you aren't familiar with our whole story, Emma has been taking two injectable medications to keep her arthritis under control. Since July of 2011, I have given her a weekly shot of a chemo drug called methotrexate. Since late October of 2011, she has also been getting a weekly shot of Enbrel, a biologic medication that suppresses her immune system's ability to produce an inflammatory response.

Starting this Sunday -Shot Day at our house- Emma will only get one injection. WE ARE STOPPING THE METHOTREXATE! (This is a time for happy dancing.) It will take four to six weeks for all of that medication to get out of her system. Once that happens, and if her arthritis is still quiet, we will taper the Enbrel down to one injection every other week. After one month of that, if she continues to have no signs of active disease, we will stop giving Enbrel as well.

This means that it is entirely possible that my little girl will be off all arthritis meds by the beginning of May!!!!

If you are the praying type, please pray for us. If you aren't the praying type, please cross your fingers, do a good luck dance, or wish upon a star. I'm open to all types of positive energy.

We celebrated with a visit to the LDS Oakland Temple followed by dinner and dessert at Fenton's. Emma doesn't really understand what is going on, but she knows that ice cream is delicious.

Life is also going well for my adorable Liam. He is seven months old today. I don't think he'll be crawling in two weeks, like his sister did, but that's okay. He's a love and a talker. Check out his latest catchy phrases in this video.
